William Lee "Bill" Baker, Jr., 85 of Forney, passed away on July 1, 2010. Bill was born on January 16, 1925 in Terrell, the son of William Lee Baker, Sr. and Hattie (Neal) Baker. He was a Deputy Sheriff in Kaufman County for many years, became a Kaufman County Patrolman for the highways, and a special investigator for the District Attorney before his retiring in 1991 after forty years of service in the judicial system. He loved every minute of his public service. He was of the Baptist Faith. Mr. Baker is survived by his wife, Lillie Mae (Vavra) Baker; two daughters, Robbie Ann Higgins and her husband Leonard of Tomball and Betty Joyce Green and her husband Gary of Mabank; step daughter, Debra Cade and her husband Jim of Forney; eight brothers and sisters; ten grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his first wife, Annie Lou (Moore) Baker, his parents, and two sisters. His funeral service, under the direction of Goggans Funeral Home, will be Monday, July 5, 2010 at 11:00 AM in the funeral homes chapel with Brother Jimmy Sheppard officiating. Interment will follow the service at Oakland Memorial Park. Visitation with the family is Saturday, July 3, from 6:00 to 8:oo pm at the funeral home.
