Richard was preceded in death by his parents. Richard has lived in Terrell most of his life. The family moved from Dallas in the 1960s to the Poetry area where his father acquired land that had been in his family since the early 1900s. Rick and Kathy made a home with their family on the same property. They have raised their children in the same place where his grandmother lived as a little girl. He attended school in Terrell and graduated in 1974. He is still good friends with many he attended school with. He was involved in the band program and won many competitions. Richard loved music of all kinds and enjoyed jamming with different groups. He especially was excited when his grandsons started showing interest in playing music with Papa. He would lead the parade of little boys over to his music room and get them all set up on their instruments. Alex on keyboard, Lincoln on bass, Finn and Jack taking turns on drums, bongos or whatever else they could beat on. He would be proud of little Micah who recently discovered the miniature piano. Rick was a loving husband and father. His children were his life. He shared his love of trees and nature with them. He took them on trips to show them the wonders around them. He loved the simple things in life and tried to pass that on to them. Sitting around campfires, watching meteor showers, gazing at thunderstorms, admiring the colors of the sunset are a few of the things he experienced with them. And now they are passing these on to their own children and seeing the wonder in their little eyes. Richard also took an intense interest in the children who grew up with his own children. He dearly loved many of them. Richard has been in business since 1978 as owner of Wilson Garage Doors. He got to know many people in Terrell and the surrounding areas over the years. He became good friends with so many of them. Both sons, Shad and Shane, assisted him in the business, but it was Shane who stayed by his side for many years. They have been more like partners. Richard was looking forward to letting Shane take over the business. His hope was to have time to play the music he loved, build a little blacksmith shop, turn his little hay patch into an organic farm and so on. But those dreams were cut short by his untimely death. He will be so deeply missed by all who loved him. Memorial Service will be conducted at Goggans Funeral Home in Terrell.
