Jerome "Jerry" Haas

March 5, 1936 — January 22, 2025

Terrell

Jerome "Jerry" Haas, a pillar of strength and a beacon of kindness, transitioned from this earthly realm on January 22, 2025, in Terrell, Texas. Born on March 5, 1936, in Kansas City, Missouri, Jerry’s life was a masterclass in dedication, discipline, and loyalty—qualities that resonated deeply in both his personal and professional endeavors.

Jerry started a rewarding career with Madix as a plant superintendent in 1984. He was devoted to his job and never missed a day of work during his time there. His work ethic was matched only by his deep sense of humor, which was characterized by a subtle dryness that made an impression on everyone who had the good fortune to interact with him. His warm and welcoming spirit drew people close, and he was known for having a special way of singing "Happy Birthday,"

A proud United States Air Force veteran, Jerry displayed the values of service and honor throughout his life. His foundational education began at the De Le Salle Military Academy, where he fostered the principles of discipline and camaraderie that would characterize his interactions throughout life. Jerry enlisted in the U.S. Army June 2, 1954 then changed branches to the U.S. Air Force Feb of 1955 to June 1, 1962. Jerry received a Good Conduct Medal and No wounds in Combat.

Outside of his professional life, Jerry found joy in the great outdoors—hunting and fishing brought him solace, while woodworking provided an outlet for his creativity. He cherished quiet evenings playing poker, equally relishing the thrill of the game as he did the warmth of shared moments. Among his culinary accolades, Jerry’s special chili recipe became legend—a dish that brought family and friends together around the table. One of Jerry’s greatest accomplishments was being a Friend of Bill for over 33 years.

Jerry’s legacy does not dwell solely in his lifelong hobbies or career accomplishments. His proudest moments emerged from the nourishing bonds he cultivated within his family. Surviving him are his beloved wife, Mary, with whom he shared 50 years of marriage; their children Karen Hurlbut (spouse – Richard), Barbara Twining (spouse – Trenton), Karl Haas (spouse – Sallie), Marcella Guest, Richard Gallagher, Lori Goodwin, James Gallagher, Micheale Gallagher-Simon, and Nicole Breunig (spouse – Robert). Jerry also leaves behind his brothers Thomas Haas (spouse – Terry) and William Haas (spouse – Joyce), along with 22 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren, whose lives he significantly brightened. A special acknowledgment is extended to Vicki Gallagher, who holds a cherished place in the fabric of Jerry's family narrative and Jerry’s dear friend Steven Murray.

Jerry is preceded in death by his beloved parents, C.P. “Pete” Haas and Florence Gertrude Keiter, and siblings Michael J. Haas and Judith Healey. The loss of his grandson, Ryan Martin Gallagher, also weighs heavily on the hearts of those he leaves behind.

Jerry's passing marks the end of an era filled with love, humor, and steadfast loyalty. He will be honored through a visitation and a Celebration of Life at Goggans Funeral Home in Terrell, TX on February 1, 2025, where community, family, and friends will gather to share stories, laughter, and tears—a fitting tribute to a man who embodied the very essence of a life well-lived. As we remember Jerome “Jerry” Haas, we hold tight to the memories of his vibrant spirit, his unwavering kindness, and the legacy of love he imparted on all who had the privilege to know him.
