Faye June Cunningham was born January 31st, 1943, in Wyandotte, Michigan, to Herman Chester Powell and June Rose (Royer) Powell. Faye served in the United States Navy as a nurse, and in Christmas of 1981, moved to Texas where she lived a full and busy life. She was a member of Saint John’s Catholic Church of Terrell, TX, and a member of the Eastern Star, and the local Red Hat Society.
Faye dedicated her life to be in service to others. Faye was a Registered Nurse and had an extensive nursing career spanning over 60 years. She worked as a Director of Nursing, held charge nurse positions, and practiced nursing in multiple specialties during her nursing career, including med-surg, emergency room, intensive care unit, psychiatric nursing, labor and delivery, home health, and skilled nursing facilities. Her caring nature led to a long, fulfilling career doing what she did best: being there for others.
Faye was also a lover of animals. Faye was known to provide a loving home to many animals over the years because of her big heart, most being strays that found their way to the one person whose soft heart couldn’t say no. Faye especially enjoyed coffee, Elvis Presley, and exploring family genealogy and making family connections. She was an avid gamer on Facebook, particularly rummikub and euchre.
Faye’s biggest enjoyment in life was being deeply involved with family and friends. Above all, Faye will be remembered as a loving and steadfast Mom, Grandma, and GiGi, to her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren– whom she loved, prayed for, and held inside-jokes with. She was a constant presence in their lives, and her family and friends will miss her fierce independence, headlock hugs with cheek kisses, and finger wags when needed.
Faye is survived by her daughter, Melissa Hardin of Terrell, TX, and son, William J. Cunningham and wife Emily of Van, TX. Grandchildren Mike Hardin and wife Stephanie of Terrell, TX; Christine Howard and husband Dusty of Rockwall, TX; Shelby Daugherty and husband Chuck of Rockwall, TX; Brynlei Massey and husband Xzavion of Rockwall, TX; Briggs Cunningham of Van, TX; honorary Grandson Lee Wallace of Wills Point, TX.
