Carl Baker

Carl A Baker, beloved husband, father and grandfather, passed away peacefully on January 26, 2022.

Carl was born on March 10, 1925 in Battle Creek, Michigan to Frank and Ellen Baker.

Carl was a manager in the aluminum industry for many years. He was a devoted husband for 75 years to his wife, Betty, and loved his family, his dogs, and his Blue Bell ice cream. His hobbies included gardening, playing poker with his buddies, and hunting and fishing until he lost his vision. Carl was a proud WWII veteran serving in the US Army 1st Calvary Division, earning 2 bronze stars. He served in the Pacific Theater and was part of the liberation of Santa Tomas Internment Camp resulting in the rescue of several thousand civilians. Carl lived a full life in spite of his visual limitations, even becoming a published author of 2 books at the age of 90. Carl always said "the Good Lord has been so good to me". His positive attitude and love of life is an inspiration to all who knew him.

Carl is survived by his wife, Betty Baker of Terrell; his 5 daughters, Nancy Dansby (Mike), Sally Green (Chuck), Gloria Paul (Whitley), Pamela Lewis (Michael), and Sandy Hernandez (Paul); as well as 9 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, 3 brothers, 3 sisters, and 2 grandsons.

Visitation will take place on Sunday, January 30, 2022 at 1:00 P.M. at Goggans Funeral Home in Terrell. Memorial Service will be on Friday, February 18, 2022 at 11:00 A.M. at Good Shepherd Episcopal Church in Terrell, followed by full Military Honors at Highland Memorial Cemetery.
